About Us

2011 was yet another very successful year for the ngs in Gloucestershire with some £102K being raised from garden openings and refreshment sales. This will continue to enable the ngs to support its many beneficiary charities such as Macmillan Cancer Support, Marie Curie Cancer Care and Help the Hospices. This was achieved thanks to the hard work and enthusiasm of our many garden owners whose desire to share their gardens with so many visitors is the very foundation of the ngs. Unfortunately sometimes their endeavours do not receive their just rewards, and this was very true of those gardens which opened on the 12 June last year. A blanket of rain crossed the whole country and the day was a complete wash out. This was very bad news for the ngs nationally, but particularly for those garden owners who had put so much hard work into preparing their garden for the day. I hope for their sake there is no similar occurrence this year!

This year is the 85th anniversary of the ngs and a number of the gardens which opened in 1927 will be doing so again. In Gloucestershire several of these gardens have continued to open regularly, but there are four of the 1927 gardens who have agreed to reopen especially this year to help us celebrate this anniversary. We are most grateful to all our 1927 gardens and I am sure they will be worth a special visit. In addition we have a number of new gardens which I am sure our regular visitors will enjoy visiting for the first time.

It just remains for me to wish both garden and owners and our visitors a very enjoyable gardening year.
